Veteran film, television and stage actor and director, Masood Akhtar breathed his last on March 5 in Lahore. The Pride of Performance holder passed away at the age of 82 after being hospitalised for the past two months.

News channels have reported that the actor passed away due to lung cancer. He is survived by a widow and two daughters.

After his demise, condolence messages started pouring in from the fraternity.

Actress Resham, who has worked with him on many projects, also posted a long note on her Instagram with her pictures with Masood Akhtar.

Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Fawad Chaudhry expressed grief over his death. In a Tweet, the minister said the actor had exhibited his great professional capabilities in many films, dramas and theatre productions. Fawad said his services for the art and showbiz industry would be remembered forever.

Chief Minister Usman Buzadar said Masood Akhtar was a versatile actor. The governor said his void could not be filled.

Akhtar started working as a theatre actor in the 60s and later in 1970 he became a radio artiste. In 1964, he started doing plays at PTV and his film career began in 1967. He remained associated with radio for 40 years and did some 400 films and over a hundred TV plays and serials. He had a 60-year association with theatre. One of his popular stage plays Paisa Bolta Hai earned him great popularity.

He was a Pride of Performance actor. In 1969, his two films Dard and Maan Baiti were released. Some of his other films included Ansoo, Teri Surat Merin Ankhain, Mera Naam Hai Mauhabat.
