Sami Khan is amongst the crop of actors working nowadays on television who have given phenomenal performances in recent years. We’re loving his difficult dual role in Saraab opposite a powerhouse performer like Sonya Hussyn and he can also be seen in another tricky story, Dulhan where his character’s intentions are quite dubious. Something Haute caught up with Sami to find out what he thinks about Mikaal and what he has done in the drama.
Here are a few excerpts from the interview:
He has been working in the industry since 2004 and a tremendous body of work, however what exactly changed that he got noticed more in the last 2 or 3 years?
“There are a few things; we’ve made dramas on different genre and introduced versatile characters in the past as well but because there was no social media, much of it was not registered on a larger scale. Nowadays, we get public response within minutes. We receive a lot of criticism but we get support as well. Secondly, the focus has shifted from quantity to quality now, more than ever,” Sami replied.
Do you think it is fortunate to be a male actor because a hero can do anything in our dramas and get away with it, for instance what Mikaal has done in the first two episodes of Dulhan?
“I believe that Mikaal is not being glorified in Dulhan; he hasn’t face the consequences of his action and maybe he will emerge as a hero but he has to go through a journey. He got into a bet with his cousin unintentionally; he had thought that Shahmeer will never give him his sportscar, but now all he cares about is to get out of the mess he has created. He is not in love with Amal right now, he just doesn’t want his mother to find out the truth,” he responded.
How difficult was it for him to play Asfandyar in Saraab, which is the epitome of an ideal man?
“Two biggest challenges we faced during Saraab were to create Asfand’s illusion that only Hoor sees in the drama in a way that she won’t be able to differentiate between them, however make such a variation that at least audiences can understand. Hence, the illusion is a bit cold in nature and has no sympathy for her. I wanted to give out a message that such caring and patient men still exist in our society,” he shared.
