In conversation with Fatima, we found out more about her creative drive as well as some trend inspiration for the season.
What would be your favourite project to date?
I did an Avante-Garde shoot titled ‘Futurism’ – the concept revolved around how we think about the future and the infinite possibilities that open up to us when we dare to be innovative. This project was also published in Make-up Artist Magazine with a cover mention.
What do you love the most about your profession?
Every day is a fresh start, you get to work on different projects, themes & faces. There’s never a dull moment, and I love working in an industry where creativity and talent are highly valued.
What makeup products do you personally vouch for?
All Becca, Kevyn Aucoin and Charlotte Tilbury products; I use them myself as well as on my bridal and celebrity clients. I’ve never been disappointed and I’ve always received high praise from clients for their results.
Which makeup products you use on a daily basis?
Moisturizer, eye cream, sunscreen and tinted lip balm. Protect and nourish your skin; it’s a necessity, not an option. You must also hydrate and eat healthily – your skin needs more than just makeup and skin care products to look its best.
What makeup trends do you recommend for the upcoming season?
Coloured gel liners are a versatile must-have; they can be used as a liner, eyeshadow, mascara, painting and so much more! Carry less and get creative.
What tips would you give young girls regarding skincare and makeup?
Focus on skin hydration and keeping your skin as clean as possible. Wear less makeup and never skip sunscreen. If you protect and care for your skin from a young age, you will enjoy youthful skin for a long, long time.
What would be your biggest makeup faux pas?
Never, ever do makeup in the wrong lighting, you’ll miss all the important details. I highly recommend using Professional makeup lights and not to solely rely on studio lighting.
I’m always prepared for everything, so much so that I carry portable makeup lights in my kit!
An interesting work experience you have been a part of?
The most interesting project I’ve worked on in the last 12 months was an editorial titled ‘Fear No Evil’. Originally conceived as a modern interpretation of the Three Wise Apes, I tapped into the TimesUp / MeToo movements to build a narrative about women’s experiences.
The result: a powerful commentary on one of the most pressing social issues of our time. I love doing projects where art reflects reality.
Who are 3 celebrities you’d love to work with?
Kate Winslet, Natalie Portman & Jennifer Aniston
A celebrity you personally loved working with?
Absolutely loved working with the very talented Saba Qamar, very humble and down to earth, quick-witted and has a great sense of humour. Sana Javed & Saboor Ali are also my favourites.
