Fatima and Farah bought a smart contemporary twist to traditional bridal and formal wear with their collection Meraki. The name itself means doing something with soul, creativity or love, and this collection had a bit of all three!

Keeping the trending soft gold colour palette, yet adding an innovative touch with additional aquas and pinks made Meraki stand out. One also noticed a minimal use of free-flowing silhouettes and the more streamlined styles. While the bridal outfits of course incorporated classic trailing lehngas, the formal wear was more crisp and straight cut. Embellished shirts paired with straight pants always look much sleeker than a voluminous gown, in our opinion.

Net, organzas and tissues were used widely, lit up further was detailed phulkari and chintz kaam which added the glam factor. The hemlines incorporated beaded tassels which glinted away as models strut their stuff on the runway, but we loved the use of the traditional kiran border on Mehreen Syed’s blue and peach outfit; it reminded us of traditional bridal wear at its best.

Kaftans, high-low hem peplums and smart jackets were prevalent in the collection, combining modern fashion with traditional kaam and showing us how to amalgamate the two just right!

All in all, Meraki by Farah and Fatima brought what the modern day girl is looking for, as a bride and otherwise. For the festive season it’s always good to keep tradition in mind, yet working with the trends and styles of today, which is just what this collection did. As the designer duo explained, “Meraki, when you are soul searching with compassion and love that it impacts on you so deeply that it actually becomes a part of you,” showing us their well thought out approach to fashion.
