One of the most eagerly anticipated events in the Pakistani entertainment industry, the Kashmir 7th HUM Awards, were held at the NRG Arena in Houston this weekend, amidst much fanfare. With the who’s who of the industry in attendance, the red carpet was a glittering affair of stars sporting their fashionable best and clicking away photographs with the fans in attendance.

Hosted by Ali Safina and Momal Sheikh, the red carpet was easily one of the most exciting affair at the hugely entertaining ceremony. Keeping the stars engaged with their antics at the red carpet, the two made for great hosts of the evening, ushering in the main event which was even more exciting and full of the glamour and power-packed performances that is second nature to the entertainment industry.

Opening up with a patriotic rendition of the National Anthem by a flurry of stars onstage, the event was then lit up by Haroon Rashid, who sung his classic patriotic song, Dil Se Maine Dekha Pakistan, making for a goose-bump inducing feeling. It’s always an other worldly experience, being at an international stage and representing Pakistan.

The main event of course included handing out the coveted Hum Awards to their deserving recipients. Emerging as the biggest and seemingly the only winners of the night were drama serials, Darr Si Jati Hai Sila and Suno Chanda. The three main awards of the night, Best Actor Male, Best Actor Female, and Best Drama Serial, all went to the two, albeit Darr Si Jati Hai Sila won the jury awards while Suno Chanda won by popular votes.

The hosts and presenters list for the award show was also impressive to say the least, from the biggest and most popular names in the industry taking to the stage to honor their fellows for their achievements in the bygone year.  From Ali Rehman Khan to Meekal Zulfikar, from Shehzad Sheikh to Kubra Khan, from Yasir Hussain to Iqra Aziz, from Mawra Hocane to Adnan Siddiqui, there was no shortage of star power onstage!

The highlight of the show had to be the two power-packed performances, courtesy of Mehwish Hayat, Ahsan Khan, Hania Amir and Azaan Sami Khan. Azaan and Hania performed to a medley of vintage Pakistani film songs, riveting the audience with their charm, while Mehwish and Ahsan set the stage on fire, bringing the house down with their performance. Azaan even made classic Reema part of his performance.

Presenting the Lifetime Achievement Award to the legendary, Alamgir, was also a show on its own, with Asim Azhar presenting a tribute to the singer. Much to the delight of the audience, he then invited Alamgir on stage, which garnered a standing ovation.

All in all, it was certainly a night to remember!
