Another weekend is here. The weather is excruciatingly hot, so you can always plan a last-minute beach getaway or go for a swim at a nearby pool. Take a trip to your favourite, tried-and-tested restaurant or order in if you’re too lazy to even attempt that. Indulge your inner foodie and visit a new inn to explore a never-seen-before menu. But no matter where you’re going, you will need to have a plan or otherwise these two days will slip out of your hands without a notice.
Folks in Karachi usually don’t have many options other than food and, if we’re lucky, films. So, we have gathered the best of new additions that you can make your weekend a joyous one.
1. Book a ticket
Sarmad Khoosat’s directorial Kamli is in the cinemas across Pakistan. Starring a stellar cast including Saba Qamar, Sania Saeed, Nimra Bucha, Omair Rana and introducing a new male lead Hamza Khawaja, the film has received standing ovations at its premieres. The silent but hauntingly beautiful trailer and its amazing OST with six soulful tracks is enough to attract anyone to the cinema. Make sure you watch it with your friends and family.
2. Binge-watch
Do you know that Bridgerton has lost its binge-watch crown last week? Can you guess which TV series surpassed the record? Yes, Netflix subscribers were glued to their screens watching the first volume of Stranger Things’ fourth season. Hence, shattering the record for most hours spent watching a series during its premiere weekend.
With a few new additions, Eddie Munson — being my favourite — this volume has 7 episodes. Even after beating the Demogorgon and Mind Flayer, Hawkins’ favourite gang of D&D-playing teens are now facing a new monstrous foe that will shake up their lives in ways they are just beginning to comprehend. Season 4 volume 2 will release on 1st July and it has two episodes (1 hour 25 mins each).
3. The foreign wave
The K-drama wave has changed the content-consuming habits all over the world. The success of Squid Game is an eye opener for those who still thought, after Parasite and Money Heist, that language can be a barrier. K-dramas are popular for their fluff or recurrent tropes — not that we’re complaining about all of them — but there is a lot of content with substance. The Silent Sea, available on Netflix, is one such series to not miss out.
4. On a loop
This is in case you need more songs on your playlist after you wake up from the trance induced by Kamli’s brilliant OST by Saad Sultan. Not exactly a fresh track but Maanu’s Friends has different vibe altogether. Written, composed, produced and performed by Maanu himself, the video also takes you down the memory lane. The colours, the beat and the lyrics touch your heart as if it is written for you and you will miss a close friend for sure.
5. Must visit
With an aim to celebrate Indus through poetry, music, art, film and dance, Lahooti Melo 2022 is being held at Port Grand, Karachi. Over 30 artists will be seen performing on the stage. The event will held from 4th to 5th June.
