One of the strongest runway debuts, Sadaf Fawad’s bridal collection showcased on the last day of PLBW, competing with some of the bigwigs of the fashion industry! We could not have imagined a better slot for this new comer, as she has been around for several years and she has the star power of Fawad Khan behind her. Fortunately, the collection had a character of its own and managed to stand on its own without relying on Fawad’s star power.
Named after their baby daughter Elayna and translating to ‘Shining Light’, Sadaf’s fashion week debut took inspiration from the colours of a lunar rainbow. There was shimmer and shine and it had a young and fresh vibe of clothes unburdened by overwhelming embroidery. “I wanted to work with a solid canvas and keep negative space alive in my clothes,” the designer told us after the show. “I wanted my clothes to have breathing space.”
Working majorly with monochromatic tones, ensembles majorly featured one metallic colour and worked around it, keeping the colour combinations unadulterated and crisp. Metallic tones of blues, lilacs, greys and champagnes shimmered on the runway giving spectators a taste of the shining light Sadaf was inspired by. The use of rich fabrics such as tissues and net took the lustrous effect up another notch.. The use of timeless crystals and zardozi was well strategized, and thankfully did not defy the purpose of keeping the ensembles chic by shrouding them with too much embellishment as new designers tend to do. The sleek aesthetic contributed to the consistency in the collection.
The play on silhouettes too was notable, while some outfits featured flared pants and classic shirts, others were more statement pieces like a particular embellished cape that caught our attention. The high-low hemline was a popular and smart feature, often paired with metallic pants, while the shimmering lehngas are sure to become top-sellers.
What Elayna did for Sadaf ‘s bridal label was make her a withstanding contestant in the race of bridal fashion today!
