There was a time when weekend parties, soirees and sundowners would make it to Page 3 in magazines and publications. People would wait to see who made it to a publication’s social diary. Sunday Times and GT were two of the first weekenders to start the trend and then it took off, readers and followers eager to always get a glimpse into the lifestyles of the rich and famous, stars, the popular and the influential. It was when social media, and Instagram especially, came in that the Sunday society pages became obsolete. People with a following (or hoping to get a following) started putting their own pictures out and we saw weddings and parties move online, entirely.

I wanted to tap into a little bit of the old school magic and relive the lovely Saturday evening we spent at Frieha Altaf’s son Turhan, and now fiancé Eemaan’s engagement party. Hosted at Eemaan’s beautiful Karachi home, under an inside courtyard that came alive under a canopy of flowers and twinkling lights, it was just a beautiful evening spent with friends, some old and some new.

With Eemaan and Turhan, the very bright and enterprising young couple.

Turhan, as most people know, is Frieha Altaf’s son and is rising fast in the music scene. Not only does he assist Frieha as Managing Director at Catwalk but he independently works as Music Producer at Turhan James and Co-Producer at KHATRA Music. Eemaan is just as bright and accomplished. She’s Managing director at Lurella (cosmetics), Director at Electropolymers and CEO of PuffIt. These two creative people seem very well suited!

All photographs (including this selfie) by Faisal Farooqui who flew in from Lahore just for the event. Always a pleasure to catch up with him.
