Star football player Cristiano Ronaldo has been accused of rape by a teacher named Kathryn Mayorga. Kathryn, 34, has filed a law suit against Ronaldo in a district court in Nevada which states that the former Real Madrid football team player raped her at his hotel room, in Las Vegas. As per the complaint, the incident took place on June 12, 2009 at the Rain Nightclub in the Palms Hotel and Casino.
Speaking to a German magazine, Der Spiegel, Kathryn claimed that she decided to speak up in wake of the #MeToo movement despite having signed a nondisclosure agreement with Ronaldo. After going public with this accusation, she may have to pay back $375,000 along with legal fees which she had received as a settlement, reported Guardian.
On Monday, Las Vegas police said they had reopened a criminal investigation that began in 2009. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department confirmed in a statement — that didn’t name the superstar — it had responded to a call of a sexual assault on that date.
Ronaldo allegedly assaulted Kathryn in the summer when he went on to become the most expensive football player in the world. In 2016, he served as the captain for the Portuguese team in the European Championship and has recently transferred to Juventus, Italy for £90 million.

Kathryn claimed that she met Cristiano at a nightclub in Las Vegas where he invited her to accompany him back to his hotel room. She alleged that despite repeatedly rebuffing his advances, he forced himself onto her and sexually assaulted her.
However, despite serious allegations, Ronaldo has denied all claims. He went live on his Instagram on Friday where he went on to say that this was just a way to cash in from his name. “What they said today, fake– fake news. They want to promote themselves by my name, it’s normal. They want to be famous — to say my name. Yeah, but it’s part of my job. I’m a happy man and all, all good.”
Ronaldo’s legal team has also vehemently denied the allegation. “This report violates the personal rights of our client Cristiano Ronaldo in an exceptionally serious way. This is one of the most serious violations of personal rights in recent years,” said lawyer, Christian Schertz.
