As the sequel for Jawani Phir Nahi Aani was gearing up to go on floors, news of Fahad Mustafa, Syra Shahroz and Mawra Hocane being signed on to the film was abuzz. However, recently it was announced that Mawra Hocane has replaced Syra and everyone was curious as to why.

In conversation with Instep, Syra revealed why she chose to opt out of the film.

“Yes, I opted out of it [JPNA 2], simply, because after reading the script I knew I didn’t want to play that character,” Syra revealed. I’m all for experimenting and challenging myself but it’s got to be substantial and I didn’t think it was.”

Syra has recently chosen to play substantial roles, in Project Ghazi she plays a scientist while her debut film Chalay Thay Saath featured her as a doctor. Would it be safe to assume that the female characters in JPNA 2 are more for eye candy rather than for significant purpose? Only time will tell.

The actress also stated that Project Ghazi – which was retracted from cinemas after its failed premiere in July – might finally be releasing in December.
