It’s 2022 and it feels as if women in our society still cannot have it all. So many times, we have seen women leave a position of power and sacrifice their profession due to societal pressure and domestic responsibilities. Especially in the field of medicine, as actor Humayun Saeed and Shaishta Lodhi recently pointed out.

Actor and producer Humayun Saeed displayed disappointment  about female doctors not being able to practice after graduation due to Pakistan’s obsession with doctor bahu [daughter-in-law].

Doctor bahus are in great demand across the country, however, they are rarely ‘allowed’ to practice leading years of hard work to go to waste. Similarly, morning show host and actor Dr Shaista Lodhi expressed gratitude for being able to practice unlike so many girls who do not have this choice.

While majority of our society might not be ready for this conversation, Shan Foods very intelligently and beautifully addressed this issue in their latest TVC.

Their latest campaign #OathForHer encourages society to support women to make their own choices and appreciate them as more than just a cook. The ad features Ushna Shah taking an oath to fulfil her responsibilities towards the field of medicine and serve humanity. However we are shown that the mother in law played by Saba Faisal has decided to make the kitchen her sole priority.

Only a handful of  female doctors get to practice after marriage. However, this TVC promotes positivity as it features the opposite of what usually happens when the mother in law’s character states that when the bahu took the oath, they also promised to support her choices.

Female doctors are not just trophy wives for their in-laws. The TVC encourages society to support women everywhere, without forcing them to sacrifice their dreams and choices. Whether a female chooses to be a housewife, or a working woman, she should be encouraged by those around her, and her family should facilitate her in any way possible!

Beautiful concept and excellent execution. Shan once again lives up to its oath to fill relationships with the flavor of love and happiness.
