Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) on Thursday banned the telecast of a currently airing ARY Digital’s drama, Jalan.

According to a notification issued, PEMRA has put an immediate ban on the drama as it goes against the “social and moral ethics of Pakistani society”.

 

 

The statement read that “PEMRA had given multiple warning to the channel to revise the content of Jalan, however, the channel administration refused to comply with PEMRA’s code of ethics and it has now been banned under Section 27 of the PEMRA Ordinance.”

Drama serial Jalan stars Emmad Irfani, Areeba Habib and Minal Khan in lead characters. The drama is about an illicit affair between a man and his sister-in-law. The drama’s storyline and its actors have been at the receiving end of backlash since the first trailer of the drama was released.

A few days ago, PEMRA banned the repeat telecast of Ishqiya and Pyar Ke Sadqay, and issued a notice stating it is reviewing Jalan after several complaints have been filed against the drama. The channel was directed to review its content. PEMRA had also requested all stakeholders to immediately review the content of their future dramas.
