The surge in reported cases of rape, sexual assault, harassment and abuse against women, young children, especially girls has proved that no one is safe in Pakistan. The recently heinous gang rape of a woman travelling from Lahore to Gujranwala, followed by insensitive and ludicrous remarks by CCPO Lahore, has cemented the inability of the authorities concerned and the government to punish the perpetrators.
Unfortunately, this isn’t the first case and won’t be the last if we, as a nation, don’t mend our ways. In order to peacefully protest against the rise in rape cases in Pakistan, many celebrities joined the protest at the Karachi Press Club on Monday evening. Some notable names include Frieha Altaf, Mahira Khan, Sarwat Gilani, Adnan Siddiqui, Sarah Khan, Yasir Hussain, Sheema Kirmani, Sunita Marshall, Ayesha Omar, Ali Rehman Khan, Aijaz Aslam amongst many others.
