We’re in the middle of a global pandemic and live events are not a feasible option for entertainment. As we continue to adapt to a lifestyle steered by COVID-19 and its restrictions, virtual events emerge as a replacement to ensure safety for all. In connection, NAPA is also holding its Laughter Fest 2021 online this year.

While nothing beats the experience of physically attending a stage play, attending one for free, within the comfort of our own homes is not such a bad idea either. Starting from 12th February 2021, the event will go on till 14th March 2021.

A new play will be added every weekend and to enjoy you can either visit www.napa.org.pk  or view by subscribing to their YouTube channel.

The festival will open with Turram Ka Makaan, directed by Safia Bhalaisha and written by Agha Hashr Kashmiri. “Miserly masters, conniving servants and hopeless lovers meet up in this classic comedy,” reads the official description of the play.

Apart from the comedy shows, Karachi laughter Fest 2021 is hosting comedic collaborators Natalie Diddams and Natalia Gul Jilani for women-centric workshops that will introduce you to a radical approach to writing and performing stand-up.

The workshops are free and no previous performance experience is required, however, applicants must be women, and over the age of 18.

Coronavirus is a serious matter and, of course, should be taken seriously. However, they say laughter is the best medicine, and we could all use a good laugh some times. These comedy plays will hopefully provide a mental health safety net for all those who are living in isolation amid COVID-19 trauma.
