After receiving praise for his previous stints on the proscenium arch such as Pawnay 14 August and Kyun Nikala?, acclaimed playwright Anwar Maqsood is all set to work on his latest project, Naach Na Jaanay.

According to a report in Instep, the writer is collaborating with play director Dawar Mehmood for the upcoming theatre play, which will serve as a prequel to social satire Aangan Terrha that was launched by the duo in 2013.

“This is the story prior to Aangan Terrha and highlights what led to the things that happened in the latter,” Anwar Maqsood told the newspaper during a telephonic conversation. “It is set during Zia ul Haq’s martial law.”

The news was also shared on the theatre production house KopyKat Productions’ Facebook page. The post revealed that within the series of plays, Aangan Terrha was the second part while the upcoming play is the beginning. “If you liked Aangan Terrha you’ll love this!” it stated.

Naach Na Jaanay is being made in collaboration with the Karachi Arts Council and KopyKats Productions and is expected to premiere in Karachi on March 23, 2019.

The production house is currently looking for actors for the play that is based in another era.
