Mahira Khan is the undeniable “Queen Khan” of Pakistan’s entertainment industry. She has achieved several milestones in her career, including living her dream to work with Shah Rukh Khan. Many people dream, but not many have the potential or the luck to make their dreams a reality.
Considering Mahira’s success over the years, many people would say she had it easier than the rest. However, it’s easy to sit and comment without knowing her journey or struggles.
In an exclusive chat with Hassan Choudary of Something Haute, the actor spoke at length about her personal struggles and how she finds escape in her work. She also discussed her TV comeback drama Hum Kahan Kay Sachay Thay, telefilm Aik Hai Nigar, upcoming films and the challenges she faces as a producer.

After several repetitive and monotonous episodes, Hum Kahan Ke Sachay Thay (HKKST) finally reached a fabulous climax in episode 18 where the real tale behind Mashal’s suicide and a lot more unfolded. It was by far one of the strongest episodes of HKKST, however, the drama is still labelled regressive and viewers are disappointed why a strong, independent and intelligent person like Mahira would do such a project.

“So what’s regressive about it?” questioned Mahira who plays Mehreen Mansoor’s character. “To show that emotional abuse and trauma like this exists, you have to portray it. Where it will go, you will see.”
“Even the most strongest women, including myself, have been in a position in life where they have been unable to utter even a single word. That’s the truth,” she said explaining Mehreen’s situation.
Mahira also questioned if the drama was regressive from the start. “Was Mehreen always like this? No, she wasn’t,” she said explaining that the things that the character experienced had changed her.
While she accepts that the drama has a regressive nature, she wants the people to understand Mehreen. “She’s traumatised. So, just wait and see what she does.”
“This story is not a love story,” clarified Mahira. “This story is about a very toxic family, I’ve seen families like this. I feel that by the end of the last or maybe the second last episode, it will make people think. It will make them accept and wonder why they compare children and why they hurt people. People will wonder why we hurt others and plant hate.”
Initially, Mahira had refused to do HKKST and several other actors were approached for Mehreen and Mashal’s character. However, due to circumstances, she ended up doing it. She also revealed that she wanted to play Mashal’s character that Kubra Khan has played.
