The biggest night of international television — 2020 Primetime Emmy Awards — took place on Sunday, September 20, virtually due to COVID-19 pandemic. However, even with much less formal attire and no red carpet in sight, artists celebrated the night in style.
The 72nd annual Television Academy ceremony was mission-controlled by Jimmy Kimmel live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, nominees beamed in from their living rooms, kitchens, and home offices due to social distancing measures.
Schitt’s Creek broke a record with seven Primetime awards and nine Emmys in total in the comedy categories, and Succession took home five awards, including best drama series. Zendaya made history by becoming the youngest winner for best lead actress in a drama for her role in Euphoria. The evening’s most-nominated show, Watchmen, cleaned up in the limited series category.
Viewers also got a somewhat Friends reunion treat as Lisa Kudrow, Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox made a surprise appearance.
