Festive occasions bring in a familiar wardrobe dilemma: how to find an outfit that is equal parts modern and traditional. Millennials jump at the chance of staying au courant and with so many local designers, the market is now filled with good designs. However, it is always tricky to pull off festive wear without bidding adieu to obsolete cuts and patterns. So, what to do to get Generation Z’s sartorial approval?
Something Haute caught up with Khadijah Shah and Shamaeel Ansari to bring forth ideas and styles that are trending this Eidul Azha for festive wear. Also, here’s a rundown of designs that we loved from some of the Eid collections. These designs are anything but mainstream and are summer-friendly.
KHADIJAH SHAH
The design whizz behind Élan and Zaha, Khadijah Shah thinks that the weather in Pakistan calls for relaxed and light silhouettes in wearable fabrics. “Think feminine and chic with a hint of eccentricity. Cool refreshing colors that scream summer are good for Eid this time of the year,” Khadijah said adding, “Opt for a pleasant color palette such as lovely corals, electrifying blues and refreshing greens for the festive season.”
Talking about the styles that are en vogue, Khadijah emphasizes that Eid brings a lot of memories and hence feminine styles are always welcome.
“For Eid, I’ve been inspired by beautiful feminine styles that evoke a sense of nostalgia. Go for pretty and intricate detailing, subtle colour play and graceful cuts,” she said.

When asked what chic western accent has the power to lift up an outfit, Khadijah suggests accessorizing right!
“Your accessories make a huge difference to your appearance. If you want to add western elements to your style, modern jewellery and trendy sunglasses can be a great place to start from.”
SANIA MASKATIYA
Sania Maskatiya has combined her signature cuts, colours and embellishments with interesting design elements for her NISA collection. Featuring 30 distinct designs, there’s so much that stands out from accentuated sleeves, Swarovski details to embroidery, ruffles and tassels.
The most interesting of all is her sari-draped dresses. This is one trend that we can’t seem to get enough of. The look is ideal for summer season and can be taken from a day event to an evening party easily. Sania choses a yellow floral print for this eccentric design, which is one of the most recurrent color of this season.
Sania’s NISA collection also features a pret wear range which offers eastern cuts as well as western silhouettes. This beige hand-woven cotton ensemble is lovely as a summer staple. Not only do the only and the fabric are weather-friendly, but the intricate white embroidery and lace detailing is also not heavy on the eyes. If you’re hunting for brighter hues, this bold color makes you stand out instantly. Fine pleats and golden embellishments accentuate the raw silk outfit, while a multicolor dupatta does wonders to add an oomph factor.
SANA SAFINAZ
The two latest collections from the brand Sana Safinaz are worth checking if you’ re looking for an Eid jora. Kurnool Collection is a celebration of block prints which is modernized for the contemporary woman who also loves heritage. The collection features lovely motifs, patterns and techniques of yesteryear. Sana Safinaz aims to reclaim and revive these long-forgotten patterns and what’s better than Eid to cherish that.
Sana Safinaz also introduced their Luxury DIY Unstitched collection which encourage women to embrace their personal style. Each piece comes with a tassel with an reasonable price range. The colors are subtle and serene while the embroideries are intricate.
SHAMAEEL ANSARI
When it comes to festive wear, we generally envision heavy-duty ethnic outfits, but Shamaeel Ansari cares to disagree. With an experience spanning over three decades, Shamaeel is a fashion connoisseur and she thinks that flair and frills are this season’s most attractive trend.
“I recommend flair and frills, which will give your outfit a whole new feel and add a feminine touch. You can play with the cuts of the sleeves to add panache,” Shamaeel recommended.
Shamaeel thinks that summer season along with rainy weather ask for loose silhouettes and frills are the best way to flaunt the fabric. “For those who look for a more sophisticated look, Mughal art designs with majestic prints will definitely attract all eyes on you,” she said.

As far as the color palette is concerned, electric blue and pastels are some of the most trending shades. “Prefer softer hues for monsoon. Rock a range of colors such as blue, lavender and bright greens,” she added.
For Shamaeel embellishments are a big yes! “Have sequins ever ‘not’ been on trend?” she asked emphasizing, “embroidery and filigree are in trend. Opt for a more gently beaded style, before trying out any heavily glitzy number from our Mughal collection.”
Shamaeel also thinks that the kurtis, capes and gowns are here to stay but what’s new this season are embroidered shalwars. “Shalwars have made a comeback, but if you’re cringing at the thought of going old-school, fret not! Shamaeel has come up with a modified version of the traditional pants, palazzos culottes,” she said adding, “formal wrap-around capes made from sheer fabrics are also making statements.”
ZAINAB CHOTTANI
Zainab Chottani’s Eid Pret line for 2019 offers ethnic pieces for those who love subtle shine and shimmer. The color palette is diverse and this time the emphasis is on cuts and designs. The collection features subtle colors as well as vibrant hues to experience a sense of femininity and modern fashion, fused in one hand-woven shirt.
This navy blue dress in particular is a show-stealer. The hand-woven shirt is accentuated with rich gold kora and dabka embroidery along with thread work over the borders. Navy and gold organza dupatta featuring traditional Jamdani technique complements well with this look. Wide-legged pants and a straight shirt makes the dress more stylish.
