The oldest and most outdated fashion rule is ‘don’t mix prints and embroideries’. And yet we get inspired from clashing prints all the time, however, we still think twice before wearing two different patterns together. Zara Shahjahan’s latest lawn collection – Morocco: A Love Affair with Marrakech – not just busts these old-fashioned ideas, but is also an ode to the North African country and its culture.

The brand has sought inspiration from the Islamic art of Morocco, including its historic pottery. The designs incorporate complex geometric arabesque patterns and floral motifs over vibrant hues and subtle pastels. Most of them are available in two color ways. When stitched in classy styles, the range can be worn for luncheons and soirée alike.

Here are the best picks of the season and prints that won us over…

With a checkered ivory base, the design boasts of red or blue floral motifs. The wide-legged printed trouser with tiny gold specks complements well the crisscross shirt. Another hit number is this beautifully balanced palette of earthy tones. Accentuated by a finely rendered paisley pattern and delicate embroidery, the dress has been paired with a colourful silk dupatta and schiffli pants.

If you want to add a pop of colour, opt for this hand-dyed jacquard dress. With classic embroidery on a contemporary pattern and a vibrant dupatta, this piece is a perfect amalgam of old charm and new technique.
