It’s the moment many of us have been waiting for. Who will take home the grand prize of Rs.50 lakhs, an album deal, concerts across Pakistan and royalties of all their songs produced on Pepsi Battle of the Bands? While fans were already aware that the two bands to reach the finals were Kashmir and Badnaam, not everyone knew that this episode wouldn’t be announcing who the winners are.
In fact, the winners will be revealed next week after all the votes have poured in. Currently, both bands are getting a lot of support on social media; Kashmir has managed to win everyone’s hearts for their atmospheric music and likeable persona and Badnaam has managed to impress everyone with consistently delivering memorable performances on the show so far.
But to help people make up their minds regarding who to vote for, PBOB’s latest episode allowed both bands to impress the judges and fans with two more performances each.
The first round, called the Mashup round, required both bands to perform mashups. Staying true to their sound, Badnaam opted to fuse Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s ‘Halka Halka Suroor’ and ‘Haq Ali Mola Ali’ and Abida Parveen’s ‘Tere Ishq Nachaya’ with their own ‘Ishq Mein Tere’ to deliver an electrifying performance that took everyone’s breath away. Kashmir on the other hand delivered a creative rendition of a classic Atif Aslam song, ‘Aadat‘ along with Vital Sign’s ‘Aitebar‘. Judges were impressed with both creations but Atif Aslam did feel that Kashmir’s mashup lacked a creative fusion between the two songs.
Moving on to the original song section, Kashmir simply stole the stage from Badnaam by delivering an exciting original track, titled ‘Kaaghaz Ka Jahaz‘. Up until now, it seemed as though Badnaam might have been won the competition but Kashmir’s performance was a gamechanger. The judges also stood up to give the show’s second standing ovation so far (the first being Badnaam’s ‘Bismillah Karan‘.
But the judges don’t hold the power anymore. As Meesha Shafi said on the show, “We handpicked these two bands for people to decide on and now we pass them over to you.” The winners will be chosen based on the votes that roll in.
Currently, there are two methods for voting. You can either visit www.pepsibattleofthebands.com to vote for Kashmir or Badnaam, or you can simply send a text to 8462 and type K (for Kashmir) or B (for Badnaam). The voting ends on 11th September, at 12 pm.
The final episode will reveal who will be the winner of Pepsi Battle of the Bands!
