There is a thin line between being dazzling and being attention-seeking (desperate), but since we, in our own way care for our readers, we find it our solemn duty to safeguard their ‘hauteness’.

Now that Ramzan is officially over (Eid Mubarik!), Eid is knocking at your door along with various party invites (we hope). We understand that this is a time everyone feels they need to go all out and refuse to settle for any look less than spectacular, so we at the Haute Headquarters have compiled a list for all our lady-stars and the more “progressive” gentlemen on how not to walk out on Eid day like a contestant on Rupaul’s Drag Race. In the words of Queen Ru, may the best woman win!

Leave the lip liner alone

There are certain lines that must never be crossed, especially when it comes to the lips, and as much as one would like to ‘draw’ attention, keep it neutral, because honey, no one’s Cupid’s bow is that angular.

Fake lashes are never a good idea

When you don’t have it you don’t have it. The only thing fake lashes will get you this season is pinkeye and that is a look we like staying 20 feet clear of. So let’s keep the glue sealed this season and go buy some really good mascara.

Anything above 3 inches is a bad idea

There is nothing more cringe-worthy than someone wearing heels in their own home. It’s great for the posture but terrible for our mental stability, and your general stability. Throw away the heels for a more comfortable and subtle choice.

Blowdry and big hair? No.

As much as all of us want to channel our inner Farrah Fawcett or Diana Ross, let’s not get carried away at the salons this holiday season. If you need more convincing, once in the salon chair, look to your left, then to your right. Look behind you if you will, and spot all the bouncy blowdrys being, uh, blown. Who needs that kind of clone-y energy in their lives? Not us.

Contouring is so last season

Even the Kardashians are dropping this trend for a more natural and neutral look. Now that is a sentence we never thought we’d say. Let’s keep the contouring kit limited to Friday night selfies. We’re keeping it discreet this season.

Keep the brow game strong

If you’ve been living under a rock these past couple of years and haven’t had any access to the internet, nobody likes the brows thin anymore, keep them thick and keep them rough. We’re going Cara Delavigne this Eid.

It’s all about the base

We’ll have to admit we have a sweet tooth but we like our cakes in our belly, not on our face. Fix the base or just opt for a BB cream this season. Trust us; we know what we’re talking about.

Long nails only belong on a Disney villain

Is it just us or does the sight of long, painted nails make your eyes twitch with absolute detest, and faint terror? Ladies, I say this on behalf of everyone on this planet, cut them nails.

It’s Eid, not your wedding

This is probably the most important thing, so note it down ladies. When deciding on your outfits for Eid, please keep yourselves away from the embellishments and OTT bling. Let’s celebrate, not hunt for a husband, to presumably marry on the spot in your dulhan costume.

A little bit of modesty goes a long way

As much as a flash of skin can be chic and ‘with the times’, let’s celebrate this traditional holiday a bit more traditionally. Keep things modest and classy this Eid, and your dadi just might slip an extra blue something in your eidi envelope.
